The secret to enternal youth, the way to Atlantis, the whereabouts of Amelia Earheart, and how can I get my lipstick to last, all of the most searched for questions of our time.
Well, eternal youth doesn't exist, Atlantis might and Amelia Earheart - well that one has me stumped. But lipstick, that I can do. Today I'm going to share with you my best tips and tricks for longevity...
- The formula:
Some lipstick formulas are creamier than others, and the rule of thumb is that the creamier a lipstick is, the worse it's staying power. Same goes for sheer vs. opaque lipsticks, it's more likely to last if it's opaque. If you're really looking for a lipstick that won't budge, try an opaque matte lipstick. (Hint: Ruby Woo from M.A.C. is a famous matte lipstick and a classic red)
- Cover your bases:
Like with your foundation, what lies beneath is very important. A clean and well hydrated lip will serve as a much better canvas. To prep for any kind of lip action I exfoliate my lips and then apply a lip balm, I try to do this before I do any makeup so my lips can soak up the balm for as long as possible. This will also help avoid that annoying flaking you can get, particularly with more matte lipsticks.
- Line it up:
A lip liner will not only help guide your lipstick application but also serve as a base for your lipstick to grip to (kind of like a primer). It also means that when your lippy does undergo a little wear and tear that there is still some colour underneath it. Think of lip liner as a safety net.
- Lock it in:
Just like foundation, you can set your lipstick with powder! First blot your lips with a tissue, gently taking away that initial lustre it has. Then, hold a tissue lightly over your lips and dust a transparent powder over the top, and reapply a second coat of your lipstick so you can that lovely gloss back.
Hope these help!
